Product Care

Each of our pieces is carefully handcrafted with love, and requires the same amount of love and care to keep it looking its best. The materials and finish of pieces on our site may vary (titanium silver, gold plated, gold fill or titanium silver), however carefully following our care instructions will ensure you get maximum life and enjoyment from your jewellery, regardless of its finish.
  • Last on, first off - Following this simple rule, is the number one best thing you can do to prolong the life of your jewellery. Chemicals in perfumes, moisturisers, hand sanitisers, tanning products and even water can all have a negative effect on jewellery and cause tarnishing, so minimal contact with these is a must.
  • Remember to rest - We recommend removing jewellery when sleeping, showering, swimming or exercising, this will protect against moisture and ensure your delicate pieces don’t get damaged during intense activity.
  • Safe storage - Store your jewellery in a clean dry place, out of direct sunlight, ideally in an airtight individual container. Avoid storing multiple pieces together and in particular mixing metals in storage, as this can cause oxidisation.
  • Gentle cleaning - The best practice for cleaning your jewellery will vary depending on the finish:
    • Sterling silver: Sterling silver naturally oxidises over time, and can be cleaned with a silver polishing cloth to bring back the shine. This will not harm the jewellery and can be repeated as regularly as needed.
    • Titanium Silver Gold plated: Plated jewellery is created by bonding a layer of gold over a base metal such as silver or titanium silver. Plating is delicate and many factors can affect the life of the plating. To clean plated items avoid the use of harsh chemical cleaners or polishing cloths, which can be damaging. Instead gently polish plated pieces with a soft microfibre cloth.
    • Gold vermeil: Vermeil (pronounced ver-may) is a thick layer of 18k solid gold on a sterling silver base. This method of plating provides a long wearing finish and is best cleaned by regularly polishing with a soft damp cloth. With the motto of putting customer satisfaction first, 100% of 8jew's products are plated according to this optimal method.

8jew's Advice

Put your jewelry on last (after makeup, perfume, sunscreen etc.) before you leave home, and take it off first thing when you get home.
